Why do we share our food?

Once upon a time, in a land filled with sunshine and giggling flowers, lived a little bunny. This bunny loved to collect shiny pebbles. He had a whole basket brimming with them – smooth, grey pebbles, speckled brown pebbles, even one that shimmered like a tiny rainbow! He loved them so much, he kept them all to himself, tucked safely away in his burrow.

One day, a strong wind blew through the land. It whirled and swirled, picking up leaves and twigs, and even carrying away some of the bunny's precious pebbles! He scurried after them, his little nose twitching with worry. He found a few, but some were lost forever in the tall grass. He was very upset. His precious collection was incomplete.

He sat down, feeling very sad. His tummy rumbled. He hadn't eaten anything all day because he'd been so busy guarding his pebbles! He remembered seeing a delicious patch of juicy clover just beyond the whispering willows. He hopped towards it, his heart still heavy.

As he munched on the clover, he heard a tiny whimper. He looked around and saw a small creature, much smaller than himself, huddled under a mushroom. It looked thin and weak, its eyes big and sad. The little creature was trembling, and its tiny paws were scraped.

The bunny hopped closer. He could see the creature was very hungry. Its tummy was flat and empty. He felt a tug in his heart. He thought about his own full tummy, now happy and satisfied from the clover. He remembered how he had felt when he’d lost his pebbles – sad and alone. He didn't want this little creature to feel that way too.

He remembered his own mother always saying, “Sharing makes you feel happy inside, even happier than having all the pebbles in the world!” He thought about his own basket of pebbles – so many he couldn’t even count them all. Could he really not spare a little bit of his clover for this hungry creature?

He carefully pulled off a few of the biggest, juiciest clover leaves and gently offered them to the small creature. At first, the creature hesitated, but then it slowly nibbled on the clover. As it ate, its whimpers softened and its eyes lost their sad look. A tiny smile appeared on its little face.

The bunny felt a warm, happy feeling spread through him. It was even better than finding all his lost pebbles! He watched as the little creature finished the clover. It looked up at him and chirped a tiny thank-you. The bunny smiled back.

The little creature, now feeling stronger, pointed with its tiny paw towards a hidden patch of even more delicious clover, tucked away behind a large oak tree. The bunny hopped over and found the clover even tastier than the first patch. There was enough for both of them!

They shared the clover, chatting and giggling as they ate. The bunny learned that the little creature had been lost and separated from its family. The bunny showed the creature where to find safe shelter.

That day, the bunny learned a very important lesson. Sharing his food wasn't just about giving away some clover. It was about kindness, friendship, and making someone else feel better. It was about feeling the joy of helping another creature in need. It filled his heart with much more happiness than his collection of pebbles ever could.

From that day on, whenever the bunny found extra food, he always shared it with others. He knew that sometimes, even the smallest act of sharing could make a big difference. He learned that true happiness wasn’t about keeping everything to himself, but about spreading joy and kindness to those around him. He still loved his pebbles, but now, he knew that the warmth of friendship and the joy of sharing were even more precious treasures.

He understood that even though we might have our favourite things, like toys or food, sharing them can bring us even more happiness. Sharing makes others happy, and when others are happy, it makes us happy too. It’s like a magic trick! It’s a magical feeling that makes our hearts grow bigger and warmer. It’s a feeling that lasts much longer than just a tasty treat. It's a feeling of connection and caring, a feeling that builds strong friendships, and reminds us that we are all part of a big, kind community. So remember, little one, sharing is caring, and caring makes the world a much brighter and happier place. And that’s a treasure more valuable than any shiny pebble!
